Punjab boasts of excellent telecommunication infrastructure with highest telephone density and highest per capita cellular connectivity in the country. Extensive Optic Fibre Cable (OFC) Network of 25,000 route km covers all towns/ villages with a population of more than 5, 000 in the State.

In order to improve connectivity, a dedicated STPI satellite earth station is proposed to be set up in Kapurthala/ Patiala apart from the one already operational at Mohali. VSNL has also set up an earth station at Jalandhar for voice as well as data connectivity.
