Punjab has a large network of schools and colleges consisting of 13 universities, 91 AICTE approved engineering colleges, producing approximately 33,555 qualified technical students.

It has been one of the pioneering States in introducing non-government technical education with the establishment of Thapar Institute of Engineering & Technology in 1956.

The State has also witnessed a significant surge in the number of non-government institutes like Lovely Professional University, gaining prominence at the national level.
