With a view to create a pool of manpower which will be pre-certified, in tune with
the needs of the industry and, thereby, can gear up for the future requirements
of the sector, the Government has embarked upon the following initiatives:
NAC-Tech program:
Punjab Infotech through the Department of Technical Education has taken the initiative
to conduct the NAC-Tech test in the Engineering colleges of Punjab. In this regard,Department
of Technical Education has signed MoU with NASSCOM for its implementation in the
state and Punjab Infotech is playing the role of facilitator.
One of the key advantages of the test would be in having industry certified students
trained in technical skills. Salient features:
- Students can apply to multiple companies via NASSCOM conduit.
- Helps Govt. to create a concept of 'education' to 'employability'.
- IT / Knowledge Industry can save cost on training.
- Ease of benchmarking for individuals against the industry standards.
NASSCOM, in association with Timesjobs.Com (India's leading employment portal),
has launched an initiative where each NAC-Test test taker can create CV on Times
jobs.Com and can get his/her NAC-Test scores attached to the CV (through a 'customized
resume form'). This will help the candidate to showcase his/her potential to thousands
of employers (visiting Times jobs. Com) through his/her scores in various skills
covered under NAC-Tech.

NAC-Tech was held at LPU Jalandhar on September 22, 2010 in which 75 faculty members
from different Engineering Colleges of Punjab and 355 Final year B.E /B.Tech students
from LPU were sensitized by NASSCOM for NAC-Tech Test. Following Six test centre
are validated by NASSCOM for the conduct of test which are: Guru Nanak Dev Engineering
college Ludhiana, Giani Zail Singh College of Engg. Tech. Bathinda , Beant College
of Engg Tech Gurdaspur , Malout Insitute of Management Information Technology Malout
,Thapar Insitute of Engg. Technology Patiala and Lovely Professional University
Jalandhar. On-line registration has been completed for 740 student and the test
will be conducted in the above Six test centre on 9,10,11 12 November 2010 and The
result for NAC-Tech test will be available on the NASSCOM website by December 07,2010.

Finish/Training School: Memorandum
of understanding was signed between punjabinfotech and rayat bahra for establishment
of finishing /training School.
The objectives of the association are as follows :
- To ensure that the students have adequate skills and knowledge for enabling them
to operate in the IT sector.
- To provide technology training to Engineers and
Diploma holders to improve their employability.
- To build capacity in the area
of development of competency standards, course curricula, learning material and
assessment standards.
Under the Initiative, MoU with “Maruti Suzuki India Limited” , “Volvo-Eicher Commercial
Vehicles India Limited” & Volkswagen Group India has been signed . The Detailed
Automotive Curriculum for 10th, ITI and 12th Students has also been designed Rayat
& Bahra is closely working with the following OEM’s and they are showing interest
to be part this initiative:
- Hyundai Motor India Limited
- Asia Motor Works Limited
- Swaraj Mazda India Limited
- Piaggio Auto India Limited
- Royal Enfield India Limited
Establishment of Finishing/Training School at Rayat and Bahra Mohali Campus:
Memorandum of understanding was signed between Punjab Infotech and Rayat and Bahra
for establishment of finishing/training school. It has been established to cater
to candidates who may be school drop outs and train them on vocational skills. Four
clusters have been envisaged- AUTO,IT,PHARMA and MANAGEMENT. The first trimester
examination for automotive certificate course for 62 students has been conducted
in the last week of October 2011.Under the AUTO cluster, MoU with Maruti Suzuki
India Limited” ,“Volvo Eicher Commercial Vehicles India Limited” and Volkswagen
Group India have been signed. Other clusters are in the pipeline.
Establishment of Entrepreneurship Development Centers at PTU Colleges
The initiative to set up incubation centers at various engineering colleges has
been taken to increase awareness about entrepreneurial skills among students and
also to provide a platform to nurture business ideas and start up companies.
Forty three Nodal officers have been identified at various engineering colleges
and sensitization workshops are being conducted in association with Ti E.
Establishment of Incubation Centre at LPU campus, Jalandhar
Business incubators are designed to promote entrepreneurs through several business
support resources and services. The support services hence assist an entrepreneurial
business and increases its potential to become a successful venture. An incubator
is a place where entrepreneurs are able to work in a motivating environment side-by
side with other start up companies instead of on-a stand alone basis.
After detailed discussions between Punjab Infotech, TiE and LPU the MoU was signed
on 20th October 2010 at PHD chamber Chandigarh in the presence of Principal Secretary
Industries and Commerce to nurture and facilitate the creation of entrepreneurship
as a viable career option among students. The incubator will be formally launched
in January. The five focus sectors would be-Food processing,Hand tools,IT/ITES,Retail
and Healthcare Sectors.
Partnership with Centum learning for employment training
In its endeavor to develop skills and enhance employability of youth across all
industry sectors,Punjab Infotech has tied up with Centum Learning to promote self
employment among the economically and socially backward youth and enable sustainable
wage employment.
An MoU was signed with Centum Learning on July 30,2010 for implementation of Centum
Livelihood Project in Punjab. The target is to train approximately 8000 BPL rural
youth between the age group of 18-35 in five districts of Punjab viz Bhatinda, Faridkot
,Mohali, Ludhiana and Moga and Nine districts of Himachal viz Shimla, Solan, Hamirpur,
Mandi, Chamba, Kangra, Bilaspur, Una and Sirmaur.Nine batches have been launched
at Kotkapura, Nihal Singh Wala,Payal of Punjab and 252 candidates have been trained.
The training is being imparted through Cal-C centers of Punjab Infotech.
Technical Education Policy
The Govt. of Punjab intends to develop a Technical Education system which is receptive
to the new innovations and technologies and is demand driven. The objective is to
impart superior and improved skills to the youth through industry oriented teaching
for better employment opportunities.
Online bids were invited for selection of consultant for Development of Technical
Education Policy for the State of Punjab addressing the following areas:- Access,
Quality, Industry Orientation, Capacity Building and Infrastructure. M/s Deloitte
has been shortlisted after the Techno - Commercial Evaluation and invited to commence
work. M/s Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu India Pvt. Ltd has submitted draft report to
DoTE.
Establishment of Incubation Centre at Mohali
A concept note on Incubation Centre was prepared and was forwarded to VC PTU after
detailed discussion between all the stakeholders the MoU was signed on 20 October
2010 at PHD Chamber Chandigarh between Punjab InfoTech, Punjab Technical University,
Software & Technology Park of India and TiE in the Presence of Principal Secretary
Industries & commerce for state wide establishment of incubation centres with
an intent to promote entrepreneurship, Research & Development and to provide
employment to young graduates in the State
Skill Gap Study by CII
The Govt. of Punjab has mandated CII to get a skill gap study conducted in six select
districts of Punjab (Ludhiana, Jalandhar, Amritsar, Mohali, Patiala and Bathinda)
to understand and minimize the skill gaps in each of chosen districts and improve
employability of the youth through targeted interventions.
The MoU was signed between Punjab Infotech and CII on 18th March, 2011.Subsequent
to which three agencies – Skill Pro,Dexter and Ejeevika were shortlisted.
Implementation of PAN IIT - GOP- IIT (Ropar ) MoU
All the three major organizations came together with a shared vision to collaborate
in the area of entrepreneurship, skill development, and employability of the youth
of Punjab. A tripartite agreement was signed on September 30 ,2010 between IIT Ropar,
IIT-alumni promoted organization PANIIT, and Punjab Infotech to forge academia-industry-government
linkage initiative for the betterment of society. Subsequent to which PAN IIT has
adopted ITI Ropar and ITI Lalru
CAL-C
Punjab Information & Communication Technology Corporation (Punjab Infotech)
is a Punjab Government Undertaking that has been successfully spearheading the Software
Training revolution through a strong network of CAL-C Computer Education Centers
in Punjab since 1988. Punjab Infotech, an ISO 9001:2008 corporation, is the premier
agency of the state government in facilitating establishment of IT and IT enabled
service's (ITES) industry in Punjab, and training human resources for this industries.
After the success in Software skill set, CAL-C took a step further in the field
of Advanced Hardware & Networking in 2003.
CAL-C, with its hand on the global pulse, identifies the needs
of the IT and ITES sectors to constantly upgrade its programs to translate student
training into job opportunities. CAL-C provides focused software, hardware, networking

vis-Â-vis industry requirement. At Present it has a network of over 150 centers
