IIT Ropar The Government
of Punjab in association with Govt. of India is establishing an Indian Institute
of Technology at Ropar. To start with, a 4-year B.Tech programe is being offered
in three branches: Computer Science and Engineering, Electrical Engineering and
Mechanical Engineering with strength of 40 students in each branch. The curriculum,
course structure and syllabus for the first year courses are broadly similar to
that in IIT Delhi.

Punjab
Technical University (PTU)
Punjab Technical University, Jalandhar was established in January 1997 for advancement
of technical education and development of Punjab. Its main campus is at Jalandhar-Kapurthala
highway, spread over 78 acres. The University has under its affiliation 220 colleges
offering courses in Engineering, Management, Pharmacy, Architecture, Hotel Management,
Medical Lab Technologies & IT disciplines. The University has a total strength
of over 2.5 lakh students. University has also pioneered an industry-academic initiative
in retail and insurance sector. PTU in liaison with Education Promotion Society
of India (EPSI) is offering certificate courses in retail and insurance with practical
training to be imparted at Reliance retail outlets and Unicon Investment Solutions
Ltd. respectively.
- Presently there are engineering colleges with an intake of 12,700 students annually.
- University has established 12 Regional Centres for M-Tech courses and a Centre of
Excellence for Total Quality Management (TQM) at Mohali.
- Establishment of Directorate of Distance Education in 2001 for promoting IT and
Non- IT courses through distance mode with operations of more than 350 learning

Guru
Nanak Dev University (GNDU)
Guru Nanak Dev University was established in 1969 at Amritsar and is spread over
an area of 500 acres; more than 5,000 students pass out annually from the University.
The University, as the flagship institution, also performs the role of directing
and monitoring academic programmes of more than 100 colleges located in five districts
of Amritsar, Jalandhar, Kapurthala, Nawanshahr and Gurdaspur.
The University has won Maulana Abdul Kalam Azad Trophy 17 times and has been granted

Punjabi
University
Punjabi University located at Patiala, is one of the premier institutions of higher
learning. Spread over 600 acres of land, its 500 teachers are imparting instruction
& guidance to nearly 9000 students. Established in 1962, the University was
established as a teaching and research university primarily meant for development
and enrichment of Punjabi language and culture.
- The institution has over 65 teaching and research departments, covering disciplines
in humanities, science, fine arts, computer science and business management.
- Punjabi University has been awarded "A" Grade by the National Assessment
and Accredetation Council (NAAC) for a period of 5 yrs.
The University has set up Yadvindra College of Engineering (YCoE) with emphasis

National Institute of Technology (NIT)
The Dr. B R Ambedkar National Institute of Technology, Jalandhar popularly known
as NIT-Jalandhar or NITJ, is a leading premier autonomous university in northern
India. Founded in 1987 as a Regional Engineering College (REC), it is a joint venture
between GoP and GoI. It educates approximately 2,500 students.

Established in 1956 Thapar University is recognized among the leading non-governmently

PEC University of Technology
PEC has been conferred the Deemed University status in 2004 and before this the
college was affiliated to the Panjab University, Chandigarh. The PEC-Deemed University
offers a wide range of academic programmes at the undergraduate, postgraduate and
research levels.
ABB Limited (India) - PEC (DU) Cooperation:
Alumnus Rajeshwar Datta (BE-Mechanical Engineering, 1988), on behalf of ABB, Norway
offered 50 user free licenses of robotic simulation software Robot Studio to Punjab
Engineering College Deemed University, Chandigarh. The software is a product to
perform robot simulation and programming and such simulation software in industry
can cost tens of thousands of US dollars. This tool helps in teaching and research
activities in the areas of computer aided robotic engineering.
PEC - JCB Collaboration:
PEC and JCB have started to work together for the project on "Construction
& Equipment Technology requirement in Rural India." In this regard a team
comprising of faculty and students of BE final year from PEC visited JCB Plant,
Ballabhgarh. A common area of Interest that has emerged for collaboration is "Solid
Waste Management".
