Punjab has seen a tremendous surge in the services sector over the past two decades
powered by a large talent pool in the State. The State Government has taken a number
of steps to improve the quality of education in the State. These include roll-out
of national level schemes at the primary level, implementation of private skill
development courses at subsidized fee, soft-skill improvement courses and teacher
education programmes, among others.
The State has also recently facilitated setting up of premier institutions of higher
learning such as the Indian Institute of Technology (IIT) at Roopnagar and the Indian
School of Business (ISB) at Mohali. The key highlight of Punjab's transforming education
scenario has been the rapid growth of non-government sector institutions which are
setting new standards in providing quality technical education.
